Of all the
equipment made by American multinational company Pelican
Products, it is perhaps the Pelican 1660 case that is the
most versatile. Engineered for the shipping of expensive
cargo, the Pelican 1660 case has been designed to withstand
any abuse that could possibly be thrown at it. When one
understands how Pelican Products began and just what a
Pelican case is, it is easier to see why the Pelican 1660
case would be the shipping container of choice for any
valued cargo. Pelican Products Now a multinational company, Pelican Products was the brain-child of David Parker, who was determined to develop unique and practical products for the dive market. He and his wife Arline began Pelican Products as a mail-order business out of their home in Torrance, California in 1975. In October 2004 a private equity investment firm bought the company for $200 million. Pelican Products now has over 1,500 employees worldwide and distribution centers around the globe. What is a Pelican Case? Pelican cases are molded plastic containers that seal with an airtight and watertight gasket. Included in the design is a barometric relief valve made of Gore-Tex to prevent physical damage to the case during the course of transportation or when the air pressure around the case changes. This relief valve also permits air to pass through, but not water or other liquids, including acids. The end result being that, barring deliberate destruction, whatever is put into a Pelican Case will arrive at its destination intact and undamaged. Most Pelican cases comply with US Military and NATO standards for waterproofing, stacking, impact and durability, making them popular and practical for use in the armed forces. In addition to military standards, Pelican cases also comply with IEC IP67 indicating complete sealing against dust and water immersion up to one meter, and an ATA 300 rating indicating compliance with the Air Transport Association standards for durability in shipping. In fact, so confident is Pelican Products of their Pelican Cases that each Pelican Case comes with a lifetime guarantee. The Pelican 1660 Case The Pelican 1660 case was made to be shipped. With an unbreakable outer shell and built-in reinforced exterior ribs for added structural support, the Pelican 1660 case can take practically any abuse imaginable and still maintain the integrity of its cargo. It is also designed with practicality in mind with dual tilt wheels to support heavy loads, an extension handle for ease of transport, as well as seven large latches which enable quck access to the case’s contents. One of Pelican Products’ original cases, the Pelican 1660 has an 0-ring seal that makes the case 100% waterproof. The case is, of course, tested to MIL C-4150J (Military Standard), IP-67 (Ingress Protection) and ATA (Air Transportation Association) standards. The fact that the Pelican 1660 was one of Pelican Products’ original designs with only a few minor improvements over the years, is testimony to the fact that the Pelican 1660 case is top of the line when it comes to cargo shipment. |
