About the Pelican 1660 case

The Pelican 1660 case has been said to be the ultimate shipping case that is engineered to take abuse. Currently the case is used to transport a wide variety of goods ranging from military equipment to photography equipment. The case is not only waterproof but crushproof and dustproof as well.

Other standard features for a Pelican 1660 include two person fold down lift handles and seven double throw latches that are easy to open and provide quick access to the contents of the case. It is made of stainless steel and has reinforced exterior ribs for structural support. An O-ring seal protects cargo by blocking any potential leak path of a fluid (both liquid and/or gas) making the case 100% waterproof. This means the case can even be submerged completely without any water penetration. A purge valve, which is a one way air valve that releases air pressure but keeps moisture out, makes it easy to open the case even in high altitude areas. A blank nameplate makes it possible to personalize your case and can come in handy if you somehow lose track of the case and a good Samaritan stumbles upon it.  An extension handle with dual tilt wheels that provide support for heavy loads make moving the case from point A to point B as easy as pulling your suitcase from one airport terminal to another. For the color conscious, the Pelican 1660 case comes in both black and desert tan.

Optional features include replacement 5 piece pick and pluck foam set and a lid organizer which comes in handy for multiple cargo items that vary in size. Divider sets that serve the same purpose are also available. Pelican mounts come in sets of four and can be fastened using 3M products- Scotch Weld DP8005 or DP 8010 are highly recommended. Screws may also be used but they require additional waterproofing. Desiccant silica gel absorbs any dampness within the case and prevents degradation especially due to rusting. Pelican Custom foam inserts range from a simple laptop custom foam insert to a complex antistatic clean room insert. Custom foam inserts are the preferred option because they are cut precisely to fit equipment and they add a touch of class to the cargo. They are also not cumbersome to use. For additional security, there is the Pelican TSA combo lock that has a reset-able combination feature to make user code memorization as well as user access easier. The lock is certified by the TSA (Transport Security Administration) which allows baggage inspectors easy access without breaking the lock and is engineered to fit any Pelican case with a padlock option.

The outside dimensions of the case are 31.50 inches long, 22.88 inches wide and 18.88 inches deep. The inside dimensions are 29.13 inches long, 20.69 inches wide and 17.63 inches deep. Shipping weight for the case falls at 48 lbs. The Pelican 1660 case is tested to MIL C-4150J (Military Standard), IP-67 (Ingress Protection) and ATA (Air Transportation Association) standards.
